Bodybuilding is so much more than a sport or an interest that someone has. Some would call it an obsession. Getting ready for a competition some athletes train and eat as much as they can during the bulking phase, which is also referred to as a mesocycle. This could last 16, 20, some even as long as 26 weeks. Then they will go through another mesocycle of cutting all of the fat they have gained and some of the muscle weight, this would start 12 to 16 weeks out from the competition. Ideally the athlete would trim down to only about four or five percent bodyfat.
